2020 Jeep Gladiator vs 2020 Ford Ranger
While three-row SUVs are all the rage these days when it comes to hauling around a ton of material, you're going to want a pickup truck. Two of the best pickups on the market are the 2020 Jeep Gladiator and the 2020 Ford Ranger. The Jeep Gladiator is a class leader when it comes to towing and payload capability, while the Ford Ranger comes with a tremendous amount of features and options. Both of these trucks are industry leaders when it comes to safety, as both of these pickups have all the latest safety systems. No matter which one of these pickups you choose, you are assured a quality vehicle, but which one is truly the best? Well, we are here to answer this with a full comparison of both the Jeep Gladiator and Ford Ranger.
2020 Jeep Gladiator Power & Handling
The base engine for the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is a gasoline-powered 3.6-liter V6 engine that provides 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, which pairs with a smooth six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Later this year, the Gladiator will unveil a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that will pump out 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque, which will pair exclusively to the eight-speed automatic. When adequately equipped, the Gladiator can haul a class-leading 7,650 pounds, as well as an excellent 1,600-pound payload capacity.
2020 Ford Ranger Power & Handling
Only one engine and one transmission choice is available for the 2020 Ford Ranger, and it's a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that comes with 270 horsepower and an automatic transmission. The engine pails in comparison to the Jeep Gladiators V6 and eventual diesel option. If you're looking to haul around a lot of material, the Ranger has a very competitive 7,500-pound capacity, which is nice but is less than that of the Gladiator. The best part of the Ranger is that it comes with stop/start engine technology to improve fuel economy, but if you're looking for the most powerful truck on the market, you're better off the Gladiator.
2020 Jeep Gladiator Features & Design
The 2020 Gladiator comes with four trim levels and seating for up to five passengers. Features for the base Sport include 17-inch steel wheels, all-season tires, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, an eight-speaker audio system, a 5-inch central display, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, and voice control capability. Each version of the Gladiator also comes with a convertible folding soft top, removable doors and a fold-down front windshield. Moving up to the Sport S brings more power and luxury features, including alloy wheels, power windows, power door and tailgate locks, and heated power mirrors. There are even a few terrific option packages including a Technology package with a 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. A cargo group package has a rail-based cargo management system and a 115-volt power outlet in the bed, while the Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group have a variety of safety aids. Dressing things up a bit is the Overland, which comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, body-color wheel arches, side steps, and tinted rear side and rear windows. You also get automatic headlights, LED ambient footwell lighting, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The highest level trim of the Gladiator is the Rubicon, and it adds more off-road features, including a lower crawl ratio for better climbing and crawling. Also standard are fenders with increased clearance to accommodate larger 33-inch all-terrain tire, locking front and rear differentials, and an electronically disconnectable front stabilizer bar.
2020 Ford Ranger Features & Design
Three trim levels are available for the 2020 Ford Ranger, and there are some interesting features to behold. Starting things off is the XL, which is pretty bare-bones, but does come with 16-inch steel wheels, a manually locking tailgate, automatic headlights, air conditioning, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. You also get safety features such as forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking. A couple of packages are available for the XL, including a 101A package with cruise control, power mirrors, and a larger central display screen. The Co-Pilot360 packages come with a few driver's safety aids. Up next is the XLT, which comes with those two packages as standard, as well as alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, a 110-volt power outlet, keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLT also comes with a few packages, including a 301A that comes with an auto-dimming mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power-folding mirrors. The 302A package has a remote engine start, a manual sliding rear window, and power-adjustable and heated front seats. Finally, the Technology package provides front parking sensors, a navigation system, and adaptive cruise control. The top trim level for the Ranger is the Lariat, which comes with s LED headlights and leather upholstery, as well as a 501A package that includes automatic wipers.
