2021 Wrangler 4xe Named Green SUV of the Year

Leading automotive industry publication Green Car Journal recently announced that the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid model has been awarded the Green SUV of the Year. The publication made the announcement at the 2020 Virtual Greenbuild Conference and Expo.
"The Wrangler 4xe delivers an exciting and environmentally positive way for Jeep fans to enjoy their on- and off-road experiences. Its powerful plug-in hybrid power plant brings welcome performance while enabling up to 25 miles of trail or street driving exclusively on quiet zero-emission battery power," said Ron Cogan, editor, and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com.
Wrangler's 4xe hybrid powertrain
4xe is the official name for Jeep's new global plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology. The 4xe powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine coupled to two electric motors, a high-voltage battery pack, and a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.
Considered by automotive experts to be the most advanced powertrain ever developed in the history of the Wrangler, the Wrangler 4xe offers an estimated 50 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). It delivers buyers an electric vehicle lifestyle with unmatched off-road capability.
Various operational modes are available for drivers. The default for the 4xe is "Hybrid" mode as it blends power from the 2.0-liter engine and the electric motors, but there's a series of "E Selec" mode buttons that help drivers pick the operating mode best suited for conditions. The "Electric" mode prioritizes all-electric operation until the battery is depleted, while the "eSave" function saves the battery charge by prioritizing propulsion directly from the engine.
Another Trail Rated Jeep from Village Jeep
Like the rest of the Jeep Wrangler lineup, the 4xe is Trail Rated and features a full-time 4×4 two-speed transfer case. Off road drivers will be excited to know you can access all power modes when the drivetrain is shifted into 4Lo. This marks the first time a Jeep Wrangler offers buyers this much performance as the integration of an electric powertrain with a 4×4 drivetrain. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is scheduled to hit dealer lots at the end of 2020.
