2023 Jeep Compass Detroit MI

Historically, the Jeep Compass has been powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine. This engine has been replaced for the 2023 Compass. Replacing it is a turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine, delivering an upgrade of 23 horsepower and 46 lb-ft of torque, bringing the output numbers to 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The low-inertia, twin-scroll turbocharger is placed directly on the cylinder head using an electric actuated wastegate to provide impressive torque response and thrilling performance. The engine is linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission to provide smooth shifts. The engine uses Engine Start-Stop (ESS) technology to improve fuel economy by powering down the engine while the vehicle is idling, leaving the accessories on, then starting back up when the brake pedal is released.  

While previous years of the Compass have come standard with front-wheel drive, while 4x4 was standard on higher trim levels. However, the 2023 Jeep Compass comes standard with Active Drive 4x4 at all trim levels. Active Drive 4x4 uses a power transfer unit and a disconnecting rear axle to provide optimal fuel efficiency and traction in all road conditions. When driving in ideal conditions, the Active Drive system runs in front-wheel drive to maximize fuel economy. When a loss of traction is detected, the rear axle will be engaged, and the power transfer unit will split power between the front and rear axle, providing four-wheel drive capabilities. This happens automatically, without the driver needing to push a button or pull a lever. However, the Active Drive system can be controlled by Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction management system. Selec-Terrain includes Auto, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Sport modes. The Trailhawk comes exclusively with Active Drive Low, which operates just like Active Drive, but adds a low-range gearing to tackle off-roading with more low-end torque to provide better traction at low speeds. The Trailhawk also adds Rock mode to the Selec-Terrain system.

There are numerous ways you can tell the 2023 Compass from the previous model years. The front end features an enlarged appearance, boasting a fierce glare enhanced by fierce LED headlights. Outside, standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, remote proximity keyless entry, heated/power-adjustable side mirrors, LED fog lights, LED brake lights, and more. Stepping behind the wheel of the base-level Sport, you'll find the largest standard touchscreen in its class, sitting at 10.1 inches. The touchscreen runs Uconnect 5, which features the latest in infotainment technology, including cordless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, climate control settings, and much more. Other standard interior features include six speakers, a 7-inch digital driver information display, push-button ignition, speed-sensitive door locks, rear seat air vents, and more. Standard safety features include but are not limited to blindspot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, forward collision mitigation, drowsy driver detection, rear cross-path detection, and active lane management.
