Learn More from Village Jeep!

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has spent years atop the mid-size SUV segment, featuring Jeep's legendary capability and unmistakable design. Much of its popularity is attributed to its aforementioned legendary capability. This capability is known for extending the vehicle's performance long beyond where the pavement ends. At the heart of the Grand Cherokee's impressive capability is a lineup of impressive engine options. Here at Village Jeep, we want you to be confident in your decision for your next SUV. Having said that, please continue reading below to learn more about the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and its available engine options!

3.6L Pentastar V6

Kicking off the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee's engine lineup is the Pentastar 3.6L V6. The Pentastar engine boasts an impressive 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, allowing up to 6,200 pounds of towing capacity with the proper equipment. To help drivers save on fuel costs, the V6 engine uses an Engine Stop-Start (ESS) function. The ESS function temporarily cuts off the fuel flow to the engine, powering it down when the vehicle is idling, effectively reducing fuel consumption. When the brake pedal is released, the engine restarts. If preferred, this function can be disabled with the push of a button found on the center stack. As with the rest of the Grand Cherokee's engine lineup, the V6 engine comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels. However, while rear-wheel drive is technically standard, you will most often find 4x4 Grand Cherokee variants here at Village Jeep. This is because the Grand Cherokee's three 4x4 systems – Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with an electronic limited-slip rear differential – are best suited for the unpredictable weather we experience here in Detroit.

4xe PHEV

The 2022 model year brought about the exciting reveal of the Grand Cherokee 4xe lineup. First introduced in 2021 to the Wrangler lineup, Jeep 4xe is the brand's first-ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain. The 4xe system powers the Grand Cherokee by drawing mechanical energy from a gas-powered 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and electrical energy from a pair of electric motors that are powered by a 400-volt, 17.3-kilowatt-hour rechargeable battery pack. One of the system's electric motors takes the place of the traditional alternator to provide maximum regenerative braking and a more seamless ESS function. Meanwhile, the second electric motor is inside the transmission, taking the torque convertor's spot to provide instantaneous power to the wheels. By combining gas and electric power, the Grand Cherokee 4xe achieves 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. While the power is impressive, fuel efficiency is the name of the game when it comes to plug-in hybrids. That's why the Grand Cherokee 4xe offers a total driving range of 470 miles, a 21-mile all-electric driving range, and 56 MPGe! The 4xe system is available for the Grand Cherokee's Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims, while it is exclusive in the Trailhawk trim. The name 4xe stands for four-by-electric, as all Grand Cherokee 4xe models come with 4x4.

5.7L HEMI V8

Like the regular Grand Cherokee, the Grand Cherokee L comes standard with a 3.6L V6. However, there is a more powerful engine available for the three-row variant of the Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee L is also eligible for the revered 5.7L HEMI V8. This engine delivers exceptional performance for any adventure with 375 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, towing up to 7,200 pounds. In addition to the ESS function, the V8 engine also uses cylinder deactivation. When coasting or decelerating, four of the engine's eight cylinders disengage while the other four continue running to save on fuel. When additional power is requested at the press of the accelerator pedal, the engine will kick on the other four cylinders, running on all eight again. Finally, the V8 engine is equipped with variable valve timing, which alters the timing of valve lifts to improve performance and fuel efficiency.
