4x4 Capability of the Grand Cherokee L
Located at Village Jeep
Almost 30 years ago, the Jeep Grand Cherokee launched a legacy of the most awarded SUV in history. With four revolutionary generations and countless industry accolades, the brand continues to shatter expectations by introducing the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The Grand Cherokee L delivers unrivaled capability and confident on-road driving dynamics. Legendary off-road capability begins courtesy of three 4x4 systems. The Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with rear electronic limited-slip differential. All three systems are equipped with an active transfer case to enhance traction by moving torque to the wheel with the most grip.
Will Jeep's Quadra-Trac I system be available on the Grand Cherokee L?
Quadra-Trac I is a single-speed active transfer case that uses the information from the multiple sensors located across the vehicle. The system will pre-emptively adjust torque distribution. When wheel slippage is detected, as much as 100 percent of available torque is instantly sent to the axle with the most traction.
How is Quadra-Trac II different than the Quadra-Trac I system?
The Quadra-Trac II's system is similar to the Quadra-Trac I. However, this system offers a two-speed active transfer case with a low-range gear reduction instead of the single-speed. Like the above-mentioned system, multiple sensors use pre-emptively torque adjusts distribution to correct tire slip. In addition, the Quadra-Trac II system offers an Active 4-Low torque control with a 2.72:1 gear ratio that improves off-road maneuverability and delivers uncompromised performance.
Is Quadra-Drive II different than Quadra-Trac II?
Jeeps Quadra-Drive II system offers a two-speed active transfer case and electronic limited-slip differential, also known as eLSD. With this system, your Grand Cherokee L will deliver industry-leading tractive capability. The system can instantly detect tire slip and smoothly distribute engine torque to tires with the best traction.
Does the Quadra-Lift air suspension have adjustable ride heights?
Jeep's class-exclusive Quadra-Lift air suspension provides electronic adaptive damping, class-leading ground clearance, and water fording. The system will automatically adjust the suspension to the changing road conditions for enhanced comfort, stability, and control. The system can also be controlled manually by the driver with controls on the console controls. Quadra-Lift offers five height settings for optimum ride performance: Normal Ride Height, also known as NRH, Off-road 1, Off-road 2, Park Mode, and Aero Mode. When your Grand Cherokee L is placed in Normal Ride Height, it has 8.3 inches of clearance, offers improved fuel economy, as well as improved aerodynamics during on-road driving. Off-road 1 mode lifts the vehicle an additional 1.6 inches from NRH for added height in clearing obstacles. Off-road 2 will deliver an additional 2.4 inches from NRH for increased, best-in-class ground clearance of 10.9 inches and up to 24 inches of water fording depth. Park Mode lowers the Grand Cherokee L down 1.8 inches from NRH for an easier exit or entry. Finally, Aero Mode is controlled by the speed of your vehicle. It will lower 0.8 inches from NRH for optimal performance and fuel economy.
How does Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction management system work?
Jeep's class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system allows drivers to choose the on- and off-road setting for optimum performance. This system electronically coordinates up to six different powertrains, 4x4 torque split, braking and handling, steering and suspension systems, including throttle control, transmission shift, transfer case, traction control, stability control, anti-lock braking system, and steering feel. In addition, the Selec-Terrain system provides five available terrain modes Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, Mud/Sand. All of which provide optimized calibrations for any given driving scenario.
