Brought to You by Village Jeep

Whether you are tearing up the trails in your Wrangler or are sailing down the highway in your Grand Cherokee, it is important that you take care of your Jeep model to protect you, your passengers, and those on the trails or roads around you. Your Jeep's tires are one of the most important parts that you need to take care of and our service center here at Village Jeep can help you do just that! Keep reading as we explain how to take care of your tires and how our service department can help you out.

What to do:

Schedule Tire Rotations with Us: We all drive differently and that can impact the way that our tires wear down. There are other things that impact the wear of your tire treads like your drivetrain configuration and the terrain you drive on. Scheduling routine tire rotations is one of the easiest ways you can extend the life of your tires. Typically, the tires in the front of your Jeep wear down faster than those in the rear because they do most of the work. They guide your vehicle where to go and guiding you through turns. When your Jeep's tire wear unevenly, it can lead to serious safety issues and even expensive vehicle damage. Our service technicians and mechanics here at Village Jeep suggest that you have your tires rotated every 6,000 miles. Like we stated before, everyone drivers differently and that can cause your tires to wear differently so it is important to speak with your service advisor about how often you should have your tires rotated.

Monitor All Tires Pressure: Each Jeep vehicle has different tire pressure specifications which is based on things like the drivetrain configuration, weight, and the suspension. There are a few easy ways that you can find out how much air pressure your tires need. You can consult your owner's manual as well as the sticker inside your driver's side door jamb, or reach out to one of our service advisors and they can help you out! If your Jeep model offers a tire pressure monitoring system you can monitor your tire pressure constantly. If your Jeep does not have one, you can check on all four tires air pressure with a gauge, if you drive a Wrangler, make sure you check that fifth tire!

Checking on the Tire Tread: We explained before about how worn-out tires can really impact your safety so it is important that you keep an eye on the tread. When you tread wears down, evenly or not, it can make it harder for the tires to create friction with the road, or trail, which can make it harder for your Jeep to brake. When the road conditions start to get worse due to weather, bad tire treads can make the drive even more dangerous. You can easily check your tire treads at home with the penny test. Grab a clean penny so you can see Lincoln's head and then kneel down so you are eye level with your tire. Place the penny with his head facing down to the ground into the tread. If you can see his entire head, this is a good indication that you need a new set of tires, if you can only see part of his head, you tire treads are good to go for a little while longer.
