Jeep EV Range FAQs
Find an Efficient Jeep EV at Village Jeep!
The Jeep brand has been consistently adding to the ever-expanding market of electric vehicles in recent years. Currently, Jeep has a lineup of three models that use a form of electric power. The 4xe lineup, featuring the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe, uses plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology to provide optimal efficiency without compromising performance. Meanwhile, thrilling performance and zero emissions come from Jeep's first-ever battery-electric vehicle (BEV), the Wagoneer S. Many questions that are common in regard to electric vehicles revolve around driving range. We here at Village Jeep would like to answer a few of these questions for Detroit drivers. Electric Vehicle Range Terms
There are three main terms you should know when you purchase your first EV. The first is range. The word range refers to the total number of miles an electric vehicle can be driven. For PHEVs, driving ranges are typically longer than those of BEVs, as PHEVs have a gas engine to continue driving even if the battery is depleted. The total driving range is determined by a full tank of gas and a fully charged battery under normal driving conditions. Meanwhile, BEVs have a larger battery capacity, and technology has advanced in recent years to close the gap in ranges between PHEVs and BEVs. Next is miles per gallon equivalent, more commonly known as MPGe. MPGe is the measurement of your car's efficiency, comparing the amount of fuel a gas-powered car uses to travel one mile against the energy needed to take an electric vehicle the same distance. While BEVs only show MPGe on the window sticker, PHEVs will show MPG and MPGe. Finally, all-electric range is how far a BEV or PHEV can travel using only electric power.
How Much Range Does the Jeep Wagoneer S Offer?
The all-new 2024 Wagoneer S is Jeep's latest chapter in their book of EVs, which continues to be written. The Wagoneer S is Jeep's first all-electric vehicle, using a battery with 100 kilowatt-hours of power to give energy to a pair of electric drive modules (EDMs)-one on each axle. This gives Wagoneer S drivers a thrill ride with 600 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, combining for a 0-60 time of just 3.4 seconds! While this is surely impressive, this page is about driving range and efficiency. However, these are areas that the Wagoneer S also excels in! While official MPGe numbers haven't been announced for the Wagoneer S yet, it is set to offer up to more than 300 miles of all-electric - and total - driving range!
Driving Range of the Jeep 4xe Lineup
In 2021, Jeep introduced the Wrangler 4xe as their first-ever electric vehicle, featuring a 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine, two electric motors, and a 400-volt lithium-ion battery pack with 17.3 kilowatt hours. One of the electric motors takes the place of the traditional torque converter inside the transmission, while the other replaces the alternator at the front of the engine to recharge the battery through regenerative braking. With this setup, the Wrangler 4xe achieves a total driving range of 370 miles, an all-electric driving range of 21 miles, and an MPGe rating of 49. Meanwhile, the Grand Cherokee 4xe was introduced a year later, using the same PHEV setup as the Wrangler 4xe. However, the range information is slightly different for the Grand Cherokee 4xe, with a total driving range of 470 miles, an all-electric driving range of 25 miles, and 56 MPGe.
