Get Exciting Performance

The Jeep 4xe lineup is powered by a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) system. This setup combines a 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder internal combustion engine with a pair of electric motors. One of the electric motors is strategically placed inside the transmission where the torque converter would traditionally be to provide the vehicle with instantaneous torque. Meanwhile, the other is mounted to the front of the engine, replacing the usual alternator, providing regenerative braking and a seamless engine stop-start function. The electric motors are powered by a 17.3-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery with 400 volts. The PHEV setup of the 4xe system gives both the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. As was mentioned above, the transmission-mounted electric motor provides the vehicle with instantaneous torque. This sends torque to the wheels immediately instead of waiting for engine RPMs to build, making it easier to merge on the highway or pass over trail obstacles, depending on the journey you choose!

Maximize Your All-Terrain Capability

The name 4xe is derived from the conjunction of 'four-by-four' and 'electric.' Therefore, it's safe to assume that all Jeep 4xe models come with 4x4, which is correct. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe comes standard with Selec-Trac 4x4. Selec-Trac is a full-time automatic 4x4 system that runs in four-wheel-drive at all times to provide maximum traction on any terrain in any weather. The system will automatically redistribute torque to the axle with the most traction without any driver intervention to counteract any tire slip. Exclusive to the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe is Rock-Trac 4x4. When in 4-Low mode, the Rock-Trac transfer case provides a gear ratio of 4:1. This means that, with each rotation of the transmission output shaft, the axles will turn once, providing high amounts of torque at low speeds to crawl over rugged terrain easily. Meanwhile, the Grand Cherokee 4xe lineup offers three 4x4 systems. Standard equipment is Quadra-Trac I. This system uses a torque split of 52% to the rear and 48% to the front wheels to continuously provide optimal traction in all conditions. Meanwhile, the Quadra-Trac II system uses a two-speed transfer case, adding a 4-Low mode that can be selected for low-speed crawling situations. Additionally, Quadra-Trac II is constantly sensing road conditions and adapting to changes by distributing up to 100% of torque to the axle with the most traction to prevent slippage. Quadra-Drive II is the last of the Grand Cherokee 4xe 4x4 systems. This system is designed to detect tire slip at the earliest moment and counteract it by limiting power to the slipping wheel and increasing power to the wheels with the most traction. The Quadra-Drive II system works with an electronic limited-slip rear differential, allowing it to send up to 100% of available torque to a single rear wheel. From snow-covered roads to rugged trails, the Jeep 4xe lineup can take it all!

Minimize Range Anxiety

One of the most popular benefits of owning a PHEV is the range that it provides. With fully-electric vehicles, drivers can experience what is known as range anxiety, which is the anxiety about whether your battery will last until the next charging station or not. However, PHEVs like the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe ease this range anxiety by having an internal combustion engine to provide power in the event the battery becomes depleted. With the Grand Cherokee 4xe, drivers enjoy up to 25 miles of all-electric driving and 470 miles of total driving on a full tank and battery. Meanwhile, the Wrangler 4xe offers a 21-mile electric driving range and a 370-mile total driving range. Jeep 4xe models come with the E-Selec buttons to maximize the vehicle's range. Hybrid mode optimizes the use of both gas and electric power to provide maximum performance and range. Meanwhile, electric mode runs solely on electric power to provide near-silent emissions-free driving. The E-Save mode does the opposite, disabling the electric motors and running on gas power alone to conserve the battery's power. E-Save is automatically engaged when the battery is depleted. Jeep 4xe models also use regenerative braking to recharge the battery on the go. This reverses the direction of the electric current from the engine-mounted electric motor, turning the kinetic energy created by braking into electrical energy and sending it back to the battery pack to maintain or increase its state of charge.
